Toronto Mayoral Election

I'm not entirely sure I'm proud of it, but I'm going to vote for Rob Ford.

Yes, the man is an ass in a lot of ways. But the mayor's seat has been bought and paid for by the unions for so long that a change in the other direction is required.

Nothing against Smitherman, he's campaigning on a cost cutting platform too and I think he's more focused on transit, which is important to me. However, I can't help feel that his cost cutting platform isn't really him, it's just what he's saying to pull votes from the centre-right.

As for Joey Pants... get the message, not even the left likes you enough to support you.

Still on the social justice ranting

This man, David Chen, deserves a medal not a trial. His behaviour is heroic and yet he is treated far worse than the lifetime criminal who robbed him. Something is wrong, very, very, wrong here.

This man, Robert Semrau... well, I wouldn't say he deserves a medal for what he did, but I also think he did the right thing. If I had been in his place, I would hope I would have courage to do the same. I like to believe I would feel the same if the positions were reversed, that it was a foreign soldier who gave mercy to a Canadian. Or if that soldier was me, or my brother, or my father or a friend. It's hard to know. When death is inevitable, nobody wants to die slowly. How is leaving someone to die slowly the correct behaviour? The fact that this even had a trial is a disgrace to all Canadians and an insult to the men and women of our armed forces. You can be sure that if we had a majority government, red or blue, there would have been no trial.

Good thing she doesn't live in Canada...

... because it's certain she'd have been arrested and most likely charged with a terrorist related activity: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-11474308

The world needs more people like Ms. Robinson!

Hell has frozen over...

... and pigs are flying.

I got a twitter account. http://www.twitter.com/r3dsl1m3

I'm not actually that big a fan of replacing letters with numbers for no good reason, but my longtime handle "redslime" is being squatted.

Regardless, I've thrown a smart new template on the site and I'm going to start blogging again. I stopped because I felt trapped by what I wanted to say and what I thought I was willing to be quoted as having said in writing. I think my desire to speak and my fear of malicious assault for speaking has undergone a proportional shift.

One can only gain very limited satisfaction from privately cursing as they read the news, so expect a bit more about social justice issues, on top of information security and software engineering topics.
